X chromosome testing information
Due to the complexity of analysis of the X chromosome, this test requires more time when compared to the other tests we offer. Results for this test take 15 business days commencing from the receipt of samples at the laboratory.
We suggest you return X chromosome test samples by courier directly to our office because the local postal system has proved unreliable and we cannot be responsible for samples that do not reach us.
- Due to the fact that females inherit one X chromosome from their mother and one X chromosome from their father, we can only carry out X testing between females with different mothers. The X test is ideal if females with different mothers want to find out whether they have the same biological father.
- If you share the same biological mother we can only offer an X chromosome test if the mother’s sample is available. Without the mother’s sample, the result of this test would not be conclusive. We suggest you view other relationship DNA testing.
Paternal grandmother and granddaughter testing
The X chromosome test can be used between paternal grandmother and granddaughter as they must share one X chromosome. This shared X chromosome is the one that the grandmother passed to her son and he, in turn, passed to his daughter. We only need DNA samples of the paternal grandmother and granddaughter for this test. We require no other samples in this particular case.
Sample collection for your X chromosome test
X chromosome testing sample collection is done by using our home test kit. We use this kit as standard means of sample collection for all our DNA tests. Our clients can very easily and painlessly collect their sample using the sterile mouth swabs we provide inside our kit. They will have the required instructions to follow to ensure correct sample collection inside the kit as well as the consent forms. Once the samples are sent back to us, we can analyze these to confirm the nature of the relationship between the people tested.
homeDNAdirect South Africa is a leading provider of DNA tests. Besides buccal swab samples, we can test many other types of samples including stains of biological material such as blood or semen. To learn more visit our section on forensic testing: click here.
